A Message from the Treasurer

“Payment Difficulties

We are aware that some plot-holders have been experiencing problems making their rent payments online due to our account not being recognised. So far the number affected is very very small but nonetheless a nuisance to those affected.

Having this morning spoken to our bank, TSB, their advice is that there is absolutely nothing untoward with our bank account but last year the “banking community” introduced new levels of security when making online payments ie identifying the payee’s bank account.

In the main this has not been a problem, but should you get a message that says the payment details are not recognised or any such message that more or less says the same it is not because the account does not exist. The advice from TSB is that you tick “continue” or similar to make the payment.

While most of the banks are up to speed on the new security arrangements and the tech behind it apparently TSB are a little behind and this may be a contributory factor in some of you experiencing difficulties.

If you are still unsure then you can speak to your own bank or simply come and see me on the next few Saturday and Sundays at the Hamilton Lane Shop between 1030 and 1200 and I can take your money then.

I would ask that cheques are made payable to either Exmouth & District Allotment Association or EDAA – no variations please as I’ve just had that conversation with TSB when trying to pay in alternatives!

Also please do not send cheques to the Town Council as they are closed and I cannot access any post at the moment.

All in all so far the rent renewals have been operating very well and I am grateful to you for your prompt payment and consideration at this very challenging time. If you are experiencing any difficulties then do please contact me soonest via the usual channels.

With kind regards

John C Barwick MBE
Treasurer EDAA
