polytunnel opening

The Communal Polytunnel on HL74B is now open for business. The sun shone on Lisa Bowman, Town Clerk and fellow allotment holder, as she cut the ribbon after thanking our Association for the work done to develop the tunnel as a community facility, with the aid of a generous grant from the Town Council. There was lots of cake and cider to celebrate the opening.

The seven polytunnel bays have been allocated to allotment holders who will now be able to do some indoor gardening over the winter. Some of those on the allotment waiting list who have signed up for the Beginners' Vegetable Growing Course, which starts in February, had an introduction to the polytunnel followed by a tour of the  allotment areas where they will have their own mini-plots.

There are a few jobs still to do, including water collection for the tunnel, repair of the shed on HL162 and preparation of the ground for the mini-plots; the aim is to finish these jobs in the next couple of months.
